Parker's Trainer - Joshua Doesn't Want Wilder Yet, Will Target Us

Kevin Barry, trainer for WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, has been an outspoken critic of Anthony Joshua's most recent win.

Joshua retained his IBF, IBO and WBA world heavyweight titles when he stopped bloodied challenger Carlos Takam in the 10th round in Cardiff on Saturday. Not everyone agreed with the stoppage, as the crowd booed and Takam protested.

Parker (24-0, 18 KOs), who won a tough twelve round unanimous decision over Takam in May of 2016, also watched the contest and he was not impressed by Joshua's win.

Barry had already made it clear that he believes Joshua has stamina issues and also possesses a suspect chin. He felt the stoppage of Takam was way too early.

Based on what Barry has heard coming from Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn, they are not looking for an immediate unification with WBC champion and the trainer believes they will target Parker next.

But Barry warns right away that Parker is not going to take a lowball offer to fight Joshua

"It made me feel that we have a very, very good chance of dethroning this guy," Barry told Fairfax Media.

"Everything I saw yesterday ... while watching the fight I am in my mind seeing many ways for Joe to nullify his attack and to open up holes on his defence ... I thought Joshua was robotic, I thought he was slow at times, I thought his lead patterns were very predictable. And, once again, he showed that he definitely has stamina problems, he was blowing big time."

"At the moment we are in a very good position. On that performance yesterday, even from what Joshua and Eddie Hearn both said, they don't want to get in the ring with Deontay Wilder just yet. Out of the two champions they will definitely target Joe. And we are happy about that. But we won't be jumping when Eddie Hearns tells us to jump."
