Usain Bolt Is Still The Fastest Man Alive

Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprint king, secured his place as the greatest of all time on Sunday by winning the 100 meters in 9.81 seconds to win his third consecutive gold medal.

Bolt became the first sprinter in history to win the 100 at three successive Olympic games after fending off American Justin Gatlin, who took the silver medal with a time of 9.89 seconds. Canada’s Andre de Grasse came in third with a time of 9.91 seconds.

After winning the race, Bolt performed his signature pose which he calls “To Di World” which involves tilting an elbow and pointing his fingers to the sky. Bolt launched one of his final lightning bolts as the sprinter is expected to call it a day after the ongoing Rio Games.

Bolt is also the odds-on favorite heading into the 200 meters sprint and will be a member of Jamaica’s 4×100 meter relay squad. Bolt, who turns 30 next Sunday, has already said that these will be his final Olympic games.

Usain Bolt: The Greatest Ever
“This has got to be the most universal event other than the long jump. Everyone’s tried it at least once in their lives. To be the best in the Olympics three times in something that everyone has done at least once is incredible,” David Wallechinsky, president of the International Society of Olympic Historians, told The New York Times of Bolt’s performance on Sunday.
Wallechinsky said that Bolt’s post sporting legacy would depend on how he decides to impact society. “His legacy depends on what he does with the rest of his life. The best is if he goes around, giving clinics, and travels the world like Muhammad Ali and becomes well known in Africa and Asia and is someone that everybody loves. Or he could just have a good time for the rest of his life.”

According to several reports, Bolt will officially retire after next year’s World Championships in London where he plans to improve his 200 meters record of 19.19 seconds below the 19-second mark.

Usain Bolt is capable of it.
