Euro 2016 Semi-Final: France vs Iceland (preview)

It is another big night in Europe as action continues in France where the hosts take-on surprised quarter finalists Iceland for a place in the semi-final of Euro 2016.

France got to this stage after a very impressive comeback over Ireland in the second round, thanks to a brilliant brace by Atletico Madrid striker Antoinne Griezmann to win that game 2-1.

That epic encounter saw Ireland take the lead just two minutes into the game as Robert Brady converted from the spot after Pogba clumsily bundled into Shane Long in the box.

Griezmann got a brace in the second-half of that clash to help the French team overcome the Irish scare.

Ahead of the tonight’s game, Le Blues manager Didier Deschamps said: “We know Iceland often use low, straight throw-ins with well-defined positioning because that’s something they’ve been repeating match after match.

“They have quality players who can also play on the ground with combinations.

“My players have been watching their games and perfectly know that they did not get to that stage by accident. They deserve to be where they are.

On the other hand, Lars Lagerback, Iceland manager believes his team could capitalize on the attacking style of France.

“I wouldn’t talk of weaknesses, but France have a style and attitude that is quite attacking and that’s something we could use,” he said.

“In football it’s difficult to score goals so if we can keep our opponents from scoring, then we give ourselves every chance of winning.

“The statistics show that a large majority of goals are scored from inside the box, so that’s where you need the ball and that’s where you need the most players.

“When your players are individually not as good as your opponents’, having two strikers gives you a better chance of creating chances.

However, France’s midfielder N’Golo Kante is suspended for the game against Iceland after picking up a second yellow card of the tournament against the Republic of Ireland in the last-16

This is going to be a massive fixture, and We will bring you live updates of the game from 9pm (Zimbabwe Time).
