Chelsea steal Wenger's spotlight on day of goals

Arsène Wenger's 1,000th game in charge of Arsenal FC ended in the joint-biggest losing margin of that reign as they fell 6-0 at Chelsea FC while Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC also scored freely.

Within seven minutes Samuel Eto'o and André Schürrle had put Chelsea two up and any hopes Wenger had of a first win against a José Mourinho-managed Blues faded further when Kieran Gibbs was dismissed and Eden Hazard converted a penalty. Oscar hit two before Mohamed Salah opened his Chelsea account to make the margin six, the same as Wenger's record 8-2 loss at Manchester United FC in August 2011 and bigger than any previous Blues win under Mourinho.

Liverpool still trail by four points after an extraordinary 6-3 victory at Cardiff City FC, who led twice early on, Luis Suárez hitting a hat-trick. Yaya Touré also claimed three goals – including two penalties – as Manchester City, two points further back, saw off bottom club Fulham FC. Wayne Rooney scored twice, the first from halfway, as Manchester United FC won 2-0 at West Ham United FC, who were relieved that the bottom six all lost, including Swansea City AFC 3-2 at Everton FC, not fifth.
