Chafa pens new DeMbare deal

HARARE - After winning the Bob90 Super Cup on Sunday, there was more good news for Dynamos on Tuesday when midfielder Devon Chafa agreed to pen a new one-year deal with the Harare giants.

Chafa, who returned from a six-month Fifa doping ban two weeks ago when he played in the African Champions League match against AS Vita, did not take part in the 2-0 victory over Highlanders at the weekend as he was awaiting a new contract.

“Yes, we have concluded negotiations for Devon (Chafa) to feature for us this season. We agreed on a one-year contract,” Chikengezha said.

“We are looking forward to acquiring him on a permanent basis but we haven’t yet started negotiations.”

Chafa’s manager, Gibson Mahachi, also confirmed the deal, saying the player is now looking forward to help his club win a fourth straight league title.

“It’s now official that he has signed for Dynamos after we agreed on a one-year loan deal. The player is now focusing on helping Dynamos win honours,” said Mahachi.

Chafa, who was a front runner for the 2013 Soccer Star award before his ban, was heavily linked with a move to FC Platinum in the off-season.

The Zvishavane-based platinum miners were reportedly ready to offer Chafa a huge $20 000 signing-on fee.

Chafa, however, declined the offer and opted to stay with the defending champions.

During Chafa’s absence last season, Dynamos had to rely on Stephen Alimenda, Thomas Magorimbo and Tawanda Muparati in central midfield.

The club has also brought in Walter Mukanga from Triangle at the start of the year to bolster their central midfield options.

Chafa’s return will now give coach Calisto Pasuwa a selection poser in central midfield.
